ALDI opens new store at Box Hill.

ALDI officially opened its new store in Box Hill on Wednesday, April 19.

Regional Managing Director of ALDI Australia, Andrew Tindal said they were offering a supermarket experience like no other in Australia.

“We are proud to call ourselves “Good Different”, Mr Tindal said.

“It’s our differences such as having never offered single-use plastic bags, utilising a coin deposit system for our trolleys and our tight product range that allow us to bring unbeatable value to our customers every day.

“Low prices are a big deal for ALDI.

“This is our fundamental point of difference and one that customers will notice when looking at their grocery receipts each week.”

ALDI Box Hill will feature a number of innovations that will offer an enhanced shopping experience for customers including simple navigation, expansive wooden produce bays and a modern interior store design including newly designed registers and self-checkouts for enhanced customer convenience.

Energy management remains a key priority for ALDI, with natural refrigerant technology and LED lighting a key fixture of the store, contributing to ALDI’s commitment to cut emissions.

The supermarket’s continued expansion underscores its contribution to the Australian economy.

In 21 years of operation, ALDI has contributed a total of $34.2 billion to the economy with new and upgraded stores, local business partnerships and jobs and saved its customers a total of $2.7 billion in 2021.

Moreover, the downward price pressure ALDI has put on grocery prices since arriving in Australia has saved non-ALDI shoppers over $7 billion.

Beyond economic contribution, ALDI is committed to doing the right thing in every aspect of the operations including reducing food waste.

There are a number of processes and policies in place to ensure very few products from ALDI shelves end up as waste and the commitment of sending zero waste to landfill by 2025 is fulfilled.

To reach the zero waste milestone ALDI are first focusing on food; with a commitment to achieve zero food waste sent to landfill by the end of 2023.

Currently, every ALDI store in Australia is linked to one or more food rescue partners, including OzHarvest and Foodbank to help get quality surplus food from ALDI stores and distribution centres to the people who need it most.

Last year, ALDI donated over 10 million meals to charity partners and more than 66,000 kilograms of non-food items.

ALDI Box Hill will become part of the supermarket’s robus food donation program, preventing unsold food from going to waste by donating products to local food rescue organisations.

ALDI Box Hill will be supported by a team of 15 to 20 permanent full and part-time employees, providing a unique career opportunity in retail.

Working conditions at ALDI are considered to be some of the best in the industry with employee benefits including salaries well above market rates, comprehensive training, an employee wellness program and paid parental leave.

The new store will be located at Carmel Village Shopping Centre, Corner of Windsor Road and Mount Carmel Drive, Box Hill.

Opening hours will be at 8:30 am to 8 pm, Monday to Sunday, with extended hours until 9 pm on Thursday.
