BCM are keen to support local footy

Matt Bennett and Brad Drew attended Hawkesbury Hawks training on March 4, to announce the BCM sponsorship of the Under 20s Team for the 2021 season with Club President, Steve Allen.

“We are keen to support local sport and with Brad being a local Hawks junior, it makes sense we join forces with this great grassroots Club”, said Mr Bennett.

“Sarah’s son Max is also in the Under 10s this year and is dreaming of a Parramatta Eels career, so it is a perfect fit.”

Mr Drew brought along surprise guest, former Penrith Panthers, Brisbane Broncos and NSW Blues half-back Peter Wallace to give some tips to the juniors and seniors in pre-season training.

He said it was pretty exciting for everyone to see Peter kicking the ball around Turnbull Oval.

Under 20s coach and legendary Hawkesbury half-back, Josh Peters took the opportunity to get the boys out onto the field for some tackling practice. “Matt thinks he could have been an NRL - National Rugby League ball playing second rower like Scott Gourlay or Steve Menzies”, Mr Drew said.

“It is good to humour him occasionally and make him think he could keep up with us. He can kick a pretty good field goal, though.”

They also visited the Hawkesbury Hawks Trial Weekend against Quakers Hill Destroyers at Benson’s Lane, Richmond, on the weekend last weekend.

The main game saw an Under 10s Hawks victory which included plenty of runaway tries and big hits keeping the passionate crowd excited whilst eating their sausage sandwiches on the sidelines.

The Under 10s are coached by Hawks legend Robert Billington and two-time NRL - National Rugby League premiership winner, Shane Rodney. League followers will remember that Shane won the 2003 Grand Final with Penrith Panthers and the 2011 Grand Final with Manly Warringah Sea Eagles. He also had a stint with London Broncos RL in the United Kingdom.

What a great opportunity for these young Hawkesbury kids to learn and benefit from the experience of this coaching duo.
