Learn how to connect to your culture and how to care for and record cultural sites from the team at DCAC.

If you are an Aboriginal school leaver or young person interested in connecting to culture and Country and learning how to look after and record cultural sites, Darug Custodian Aboriginal Corporation (DCAC) may have just the thing.

From November 21 to 25, DCAC is offering a week of in-the-field training for Aboriginal people located in the Mt Irvine area.

Erin Wilkiins from Darug Custodian said that DCAC had been working in the cultural heritage, education and consultation space for more than 30 years.

“The program is open to all Aboriginal people, as it is about creating cultural links to Country and identity as well as learning skills to record and protect our cultural sites,” Ms Wilkins said.

“It’s a week-long program as we will be spending five days … in the field in the Hawkesbury/Blue Mountains area; heading out each morning and returning each afternoon.”

Ms Wilkins said that while cultural identity and practices differed from nation to nation, they still retained and shared the same cultural values of Country.

“Our sites and stories my differ, but our connection regardless of our nation is so important and vital to our young people, especially those growing up off-Country or those who are returning home,” she said.

“Many of our young people have been disconnected from their culture and it is a great way to and reconnect to culture, identity and Country through hands-on and in-the-field training.

“We are working with archeologists and NPWS and other Dharug people to ignite curiosity, and passion and upskill our mob into career pathways and further study options.

“We don’t have enough people to continue this important work to recognise, protect and preserve Country so we are offering the opportunity of this training.”

Spaces are limited, so if you are interested in learning more email info@darugcorporation.com.au today or message them via Facebook for a link to the EOI submission form.
