Historic Bells Line of Road will receive critical safety upgrades thanks to $100 million in funding from the Federal Government.

The Australian Government has committed $100 million to overhaul one of the State’s most historic roads.

Bells Line of Road will receive safety upgrades such as overtaking lanes, ensuring a safer journey for the thousands of locals and tourists using the scenic route between the Blue Mountains and Richmond each day thanks to the funding.

The road, stretching from Richmond in the East to Bell in the West, was heavily impacted by extreme weather in March 2021 and subsequent bouts of record rainfall.

This funding injection comes as Transport for NSW continues to undertake investigation and repair work following the damaging weather events.

Member for Hawkesbury, Robyn Preston welcomed the funding from the Australian Government.

“I know that primary producers, tradies, truck drivers, tourists and families who travel on this important life-line of road, will appreciate this upgrade,” Ms Preston said.

NSW Premier, Dominic Perrottet said Bells Line of Road had taken an absolute battering from the weather in recent years and was in desperate need of urgent safety upgrades.

“Bells Line of Road goes through the heart of the beautiful Blue Mountains and is critical to residents who live in this region,” Mr Perrottet said.

“These upgrades will ensure local residents, primary producers and tourists will be able to travel safely along Bells Line of Road into the future.

“This is demonstration of the Commonwealth and the NSW Government working together to deliver world-class and safer roads across our state.”
