Entries to the Smartfone Flick Fest 2023 close on August 1.

As the competition moves into its 9th big year, entries are flooding in, Festival co-founders Ali Crew and Angela Blake (Festival Director) are expecting to exceed last year’s over 300 films from across the globe.

More than half of last year’s films came from local Australian urban, regional and rural filmmakers.

“It’s an exciting time for creativity,” Ms Blake said.

“There truly are no limitations, no borders.

“Never before has storytelling on the big screen been more relevant, affordable and accessible.”

This Aussie-born, hugely successful, international film fest, for movies entirely filmed on a smartphone or tablet, is open to filmmakers of all ages.

With finals scheduled for the weekend of November 18 to 19 at the Actors Centre Australia and online, the big test for smart filmmakers with small tech and big imaginations boasts a slew of awards on offer.

There are $50,000 in prizes to be won and 35 awards across five categories await filmmakers of all ages.

  • The SF3 feature films, at least 40 minutes long; and
  • The Sf360, up to 20 minutes for films in virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR) and 360-degree genres.

The lead-up to the festival includes many workshops and masterclasses, with the first of these set to be announced in July.
