2021 Winner Georgia Brogan Youth

Georgia Brogan’s Youth won the Australian Life photography competition in 2021. Entries for this year’s competition close at midnight on Tuesday, May 24.

If you enjoy taking photos, one of the country’s most prestigious photography exhibitions and prizes may just be the opportunity you’ve been waiting for.

Open to amateur and professional photographers alike, Australian Life is offering a $10,000 prize and the chance to be part of an outdoor exhibition in Hyde Park for their interpretations of life in Australia.

A People’s Choice award will also be up for grabs, with the winner taking home a $5,000 Olympus professional pack.

Children aged between 3 and 12 years have also been invited to submit their creative snaps on life as part of the Little Sydney Lives photography competition and exhibition.

Photography prizes worth $500 will be awarded to winners in each of two categories - 3 to 7 and 8 to 12 years.

You must be quick, though, because entries close at midnight Tuesday, May 24.

Australian Life began 20 years ago and there have been some dramatic changes across the nation in those two decades.

They are looking for photographs taken over the past 12 months that illustrate Australia as a place that offers many varied and unique experiences.

A panel of judges will select 28 finalist images for inclusion in the Hyde Park exhibition for everyone to enjoy from September 15 to October 9.

The Australian Life winner will be announced at the exhibition opening.

The youngest entrant in the 2021 competition was 19-year-old Georgia Brogan from Stanmore, NSW with her work titled Youth, showing a pensive young girl in the back of a dimly lit car.

Judges described her work as ‘nostalgic, romantic and beautiful and something they’d ‘want to put on the cover of a book’.

Australian Life is part of the City of Sydney’s year-round Art & About Program of events and temporary art projects in unusual spaces throughout the city.
