Get the advice you need to make sure you’re ready for bushfire season at the Yarramundi Rural Fire Brigade’s online event on Saturday, September 12.

The Yarramundi Rural Fire Brigade will host its annual Get Ready Weekend session in preparation of bushfire season on Saturday, September 12, only this year the event will be conducted online.

A spokesperson from the Yarramundi Rural Fire Brigade said that residents could register for the online event on their facebook page.

“About 80 posts are being posted on our facebook page,” the spokesperson said. “There is also an online form where people can ask questions and one of our team will get back to them to answer.”

One of their posts outlines the top five actions you can take to prepare your farm or rural property against the risk of fire. They include:

  • Clearing or slashing flammable materials around structures like sheds or homes.
  • Conducting controlled burns if you have the right permits, approvals and skill and the conditions are right.
  • Ploughing firebreaks around paddock boundaries to prevent the spread of fire.
  • Rotating stock across the property to ensure paddocks are well grazed.
  • Preparing and maintaining sturdy hoses and water pumps in case they are needed to defend the property.

Prepare well in advance of fire season because leaving it to the last minute is simply too late. Visit myfireplan.com.au for more preparation advice.
