Hawkesbury City Council proudly sponsors this year’s Hawkesbury Canoe Classic next month.

Hawkesbury City Council has signed on as a sponsor of the Hawkesbury Canoe Classic to be held on October 28 and 29.

The Hawkesbury Classic is a charity fundraiser.

Over the years, the event has raised $4.4 million for the nominated major recipient of sponsorship funds for this year, Arrow Bone Marrow Transplant Foundation.

Thousands of Australians are diagnosed with leukaemia, lymphoma or myeloma and many more are diagnosed with autoimmune diseases such as MS, blood diseases like anaemia and other non-malignant diseases each year.

In many cases, a bone marrow or stem cell transplant offers the best prospect of recovery.

The Arrow Foundation is dedicated to helping medical researchers find better treatments and one day a cure for diseases treatable by bone marrow transplants.

Until then, the foundation does what it can to improve the quality of life for people needing a bone marrow transplant by:

  • Providing financial assistance and information to patients, their families and carers;
  • Supporting the educational and professional development needs of nurses and other healthcare professionals working in the transplant field; and
  • Investing in medical research that improves bone marrow transplant patient outcomes.

The Hawkesbury Canoe Classic provides a unique opportunity to those who want to pit themselves against the physical and mental hurdles thrown up by a 111 km overnight paddle from Windsor to Mooney on the majestic Hawkesbury River.

This event is open to all forms of paddle craft, from single kayaks, canoes and ocean-racing skis to multi-paddler outriggers and Dragon Boats.

Paddles may range in age from 16 to 80.

Registrations are now open and will remain so until October 13. Visit https://www.canoeclassic.net/ for more information.
