Hawkesbury Helping Hands have been inundated with questions about whether or not they will be hosting a free Christmas lunch this year for those people alone for the festive season.

The answer is a resounding yes, and it will be to the pre-COVID magnitude.

HHH’s Linda Strickland said that while they had continued to host the event over the past two years, the events were limited due to COVID restrictions.

“Last year, we had 50 or 60 people,” Ms Strickland.

“The year before that we were only able to have 25 people, just the homeless.

“We are super excited to be back to our big event.”

Many of us take the family for granted, particularly at festive times like Christmas.

We all know that the people we love are going to gather together and celebrate each other and the season, but that is not the case for many people within our community.

There are many people alone and lonely on Christmas Day, but the team at HHH want to change that again this year.

“We just invite people to come along and break bread with us,” Ms Strickland said.

“We’re one of the only organisations open at Christmas.”

Anyone who has put on the family Christmas lunch knows how much work is involved in the preparation during the days leading up to the big event and the ultimate clean-up afterwards.

That is why, this year, HHH has asked that anyone volunteering to help out could commit to doing so for more than just Christmas Day.
