Hawkesbury Helping Hands plans to host a community barbecue for the homeless tomorrow night and join them to watch the Matildas play their next match.

The team at Hawkesbury Helping Hands (HHH) is always on the lookout for ways to extend their care and support to the community.

With this year’s Homelessness Week theme of It’s Time To End Homelessness, the HHH team has decided to host a community barbecue with the works on Saturday night.

It’s not just bellies they’re catering for, either.

They are making it a full-on social occasion - that’s right, they are pulling out the big-screen telly and inviting the homeless to enjoy a bit of soccer.

The Matildas won the other night and their next game is set for 5 pm on Saturday.

They’ve organised some green and gold decorations, but they could use a little help setting up.

Anyone with a little skill on the barbie wouldn’t be turned away, either.

If there is anyone in the community that could contribute by cooking a potato bake, salad or dessert it would be greatly appreciated.

The team would also welcome some soft drinks or juice to share with everyone.

If you are able to help, please message the team via their Facebook page.

It can be easy to forget about the plight of those less fortunate when we’re sitting cosily in our warm homes with a full belly and somewhere safe to sleep or to form a judgement without knowing the first thing about another person’s life.

It can also be easy to condemn yourself if you find yourself on the streets and can’t seem to catch a break.

Minister for Housing and Minister for Homelessness, Rose Jackson said homelessness was not a personal failing.

“Many people are one bad job, one bad relationship, one natural disaster away from facing homelessness,” Ms Jackson said.
