Journalist and author, Jackie Dent discusses The Great Dead Body Teachers at Hawkesbury Library Service on Friday, September 8 from 6 pm.

Following the death of her pet budgie as a young girl, journalist and author Jackie Dent has been fascinated by the process of decay.

As an adult, she discovered that her grandparents had donated their bodies to science, and she was intrigued.

What would lead someone to donate their bodies to science?

What are the ethical and practical concerns of body donation, and what happens once the donated body is no longer required?

Part detective, part adventure story, Dent weaves the personal with the historical in her book The Great Dead Body Teachers, delving into the history of medical cadaver research and exploring the practicalities and the ethics of whole-body dissection, all the while searching for answers as to what happened to her grandparents.

Hawkesbury Library Service will host a discussion with Jackie Dent on Friday, September 8 from 6 pm.

Tickets are just $5 per person, which includes light refreshments from 5:30 pm.

Bookings are essential - https://www.eventbrite.com.au/o/hawkesbury-library-service-11842492197 or 4560 4460.
