Just lending a hand

Jamie Reardon of JME Excavations jumped in to help clear the Yarramundi Bridge.

There’s not much chance of crossing from one side of the river to the other when the bridge is underwater, damaged or littered with debris.

Without a clear passage across the Yarramundi Bridge, people were trapped until a local decided to lend a hand.

Like most heroes, Jamie Reardon of JME Excavations seems to shrug off what he did to help clear up the bridge.

“We were working at one of my neighbours’ places and when we finished the job, we went to check out the bridge,” Mr Reardon said.

“I asked if we could lend a hand and they said, “yes”.

Mr Reardon worked for four to five hours to help the firies and SES workers to clear the bridge.

“I just gave them a hand getting the sand off the bridge,” he said. “The rural firies leant a hand.

“Everyone helped out; a couple of my guys came and gave a hand as well.” Mr Reardon said they couldn’t really do much with the bridge out of action, so it was wonderful to see groups working together to get it cleaned up and ready to use.
