Hawkesbury roofer, Matt Skelton has called on his community to be part of his fundraising efforts on behalf of the Mark Hughes Foundation for research into brain cancer.

Hawkesbury roofer, Matt Skelton will soon pull on his trainers to walk from Newcastle to Sydney to raise funds for the Mark Hughes Foundation (MHF).

“A few years ago I got talked into taking part in the first-ever Big Three Trek,” Matt said.

“I initially got involved through a friend of mine, Ryan Gallagher, who you might know through MAFS and I’m A Celebrity.

“He was asked to be involved by the organiser of the walk, Luke, and he asked if he knew anyone else who would be interested in doing it.

“The rest is history.”

That first walk took place on June 17, 2021, from the SCG in Moore Park to McDonald Jones Stadium in New Castle to finish at the Knights NRL game.

“I believe we raised over $150,000 as a group for the Mark Hughes Foundation,” Matt said.

“Since then I’ve been involved in several other walks with the Big Three where we walked from New Castle to Sydney for the McGrath Foundation.

“Lots of sportspeople, media personalities and everyday people like myself (a lot of who have been directly affected by these diseases) get involved every year to raise much-needed funds for these amazing charity groups.”

The fundraiser is organised in conjunction with the Beanies for Brain Cancer round of the NRL.

To celebrate the launch of the NRL Beanie for Brain Cancer Round, the Big Three and MHF team will join hundreds of sports and media personalities in a 5km walk from the Sydney Cricket Ground, which also promotes the efforts of the 40-plus trekkers and the challenge ahead of them.

This year, Matt and the team of Brain Cancer Warriors, family and friends of those who have fought and are still fighting the awful disease, as well as loyal Big Three trekkers, will leave Newcastle on June 30 to walk 150km, a three-day trek to 4 Pines Park in Manly, Sydney for the start of the Manly versus Roosters game.

Matt would love his Hawkesbury community to get behind him and sponsor him in the lead-up to the walk.

His goal is to raise $5000 for the MHF to fund vital research into brain cancer.

So, let’s get behind Matt from Mattak Roofing and help him reach his goal.
