The National Breast Cancer Foundation launches Breast Cancer Awareness Month with BREASTfast.

More than 20,000 Australians will be diagnosed with breast cancer and over 3,200 will die from the disease this year.

This Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Aussies are being urged to share an image of their breakfast and donate the cost of that breakfast to the National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF) to help fund life-saving research.

NBCF CEO Associate Professor Cleola Anderiesz said the campaign aimed to raise awareness of the impact of breast cancer and the importance of funding research to achieve the Foundation’s vision of zero deaths from breast cancer.

“Each death is one death too many, and research is critical to better understand, prevent, detect and treat breast cancer and ultimately end deaths from breast cancer,” Ms Anderiesz said.

“We’re asking people to photograph their breakfast, post the images online and donate the cost of their breakfast to NBCF so we can continue to fuel life-saving breast cancer research.”

Breast cancer survivor, and Masterchef, Minoli De Silva said she couldn’t stress the importance and value of funding breast cancer research enough.

“By taking part in #BREASTfast, Australians can help researchers who undertake life-saving work, and at the same time, you get to share your favourite, most delicious breakfasts.

“Personally, fuelling my mind and body with good food is so important, not just when I was undergoing breast cancer treatment, but as a general philosophy for health and wellbeing.

“That’s why I feel so passionate about #BREASTfast and helping raise the community’s awareness of the NBCF as the peak not-for-profit body funding breast cancer research in Australia.”

The NBCF has provided around $200 million of funding to nearly 600 research projects since 1994 and in that time, death rates from breast cancer in Australia have reduced by 43 per cent.

David Jones will also be donating $1 from the sale of selected full-priced bras instore and online during October to celebrate their 28-year partnership with NBCF.
