Shining A Light On Our Hawkesbury Heroes

Helping Hands

The Flood of 2021 brought the people of the Hawkesbury together, once again to battle against the forces of nature. After some of the most devastating natural disasters in recent years, including fires and floods, together with a Pandemic, resilience is the only word that can be applied.

Standing together to assist in anyway they could, residence throughout the Hawkesbury did amazing things to lend a helping hand. It didn’t matter your occupation or religion. We saw politicians, volunteers, business owners, farmers, school children and many more, come together to help others.

From a Baptist Pastor, the simple act of having a chat to a neighbour, to sharing a cuppa, to flying a chopper, a farmer who was ready to pitch in, a volunteer organisation who housed, clothed, fed and delivered much needed necessities, stretching from Bilpin to St Albans, and everywhere in between, we have seen what community spirit, and the hand of a stranger can do, to assist in overcoming adversity.

In this issue and the subsequent weeks to follow, we will be shining a light on the members of the community who helped in their own way, from small acts of kindness, to mammoth evacuation tasks, and the selfless actions that made a massive impact on those around them.

On behalf of the Hawkesbury Phoenix, we say thank you to the everyday heroes who put others first and made a difference in their lives.
