Small business owners in Hawkesbury post what’s happening on the ShopSmall page, instantly reaching thousands of prospective customers.

A lot of small business owners were nervous about what COVID would mean for their business.

Hawkesbury City Council Mayor, Sarah McMahon put her passion for her community where her mouth is and used her social media savvy to drum up some support.

“When I first started, I got nearly every business to deliver to my door and took photos of them outside my door and me inside,” Ms McMahon said.

“I wanted it to be a one-stop shop for small businesses around the Hawkesbury.”

Since its inception at the beginning of the pandemic, Shop Small has grown to almost 20,000 members, with the page now running itself sort of organically.

Many business owners have reached out to Ms McMahon to tell her that Shop Small saved them during COVID.

“Businesses post because they know that they will reach 20,000 people for free,” she said.

“We have so much to offer here in the Hawkesbury.”

All small business owners can post on the page, whether they are trading products or services.
