Get ready community award

Hawkesbury Council, organisations and community groups are urged to nominate a disaster resiliency project for the Get Ready Community Award.

There are just ten days left to nominate community-led projects for the Get Ready Community Award.

If any community in the State knows how to recover from hazards, it has to be Hawkesbury.

Hawkesbury organisations, community groups and Council are urged to nominate a disaster resiliency project for the NSW Government award which acknowledges those initiatives that have helped the community to respond to, recover from and prepare for hazards.

Resilience NSW Commissioner, Shane Fitzsimmons said initiatives that brought people together and considered the specific needs of a town could be award-winning.

“We’re also looking for projects that put communities in better stead for any future disasters,” Mr Fitzsimmons said.

“If an initiative springs to mind, I urge you to nominate.

“Local organisations are often the unsung heroes of NSW, and we need to make sure their hard work doesn’t go unnoticed.”

The simple application process can be completed through the online web form, and applications close on July 18.

The annual Get Ready Community Award was launched in 2015 to highlight disaster preparedness and recovery projects led by, and focused on, a specific community.

Projects underway or completed are eligible for nomination. Local organisations are also invited to submit entries on behalf of a community.
