Hawkesbury caravan parks urged to apply for Federal government tourism funding to upgrade their facilities.

Hawkesbury caravan parks have been invited to apply for Federal government tourism funding to upgrade their facilities.

Federal Member for Macquarie, Susan Templeman said $10 million in grants would be delivered to support upgrades and new facilities at caravan parks across Australia, providing an opportunity for local caravan parks to boost their offering following the floods.

“Our local caravan parks have done it really tough with the double hit of COVID lockdowns and flooding,” Ms Templeman said.

“It’s one thing to clean up after floods and repair the damage in the caravan parks, but this is about reinvigorating the caravan park sector to entice people back to our van parks.

“Among the improvements these grants can be used for is accessibility, so more people can use the facilities while travelling which means more economic benefit for the area and more people seeing the beautiful Hawkesbury region.

“So many Australians have happy memories of spending their holidays by the river at the caravan parks.

“Our local parks bring domestic tourism dollars to the Hawkesbury and boost the income of our essential food suppliers like our butchers as people stock up for their van week or weekends.”

Ms Templeman said the grant funding provided in the 2022-23 October Budget recognised the growing value of caravanning to Australia’s local tourist economy.

“It’s so important for the Hawkesbury to continue to provide affordable holiday accommodation for travellers looking to stay in our beautiful community,” she said.

“We’re seeing more people choosing to spend their holiday seeing Australia, the Hawkesbury and surrounds’ natural beautiful makes is a perfect stop for sightseers.”

Applications for grants are now open and will close on Thursday, December 22.
